Keys handed over to Sir Lowry's Pass Village housing project beneficiaries

New Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes were handed over today, 24 July 2023, to qualifying beneficiaries of the City’s R101 million Sir Lowry’s Pass Village housing project. The project will provide homes to 307 beneficiaries and their families and is expected to be completed in 2024, if all goes as planned.

'I am absolutely thrilled to be here again to hand over new homes in the Somerset West area. We handed over the first homes to qualifying beneficiaries in April this year and I am pleased to be back here to hand over more houses and to see the progress on site. This is a truly beautiful project and I am so proud of what our teams are achieving here.

'This project is a wonderful example of our commitment to providing affordable opportunities to beneficiaries across the metro, which are close to economic opportunities and public transport infrastructure. Thank you to the contractors and City staff for their hard work here. We look forward to providing many more opportunities in the months to come. We call on our communities, civic organisations and beneficiaries to continue to work with us so that we can deliver more opportunities to our beneficiaries in the shortest possible time,' said Alderman James Vos, Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.

The selection of beneficiaries for housing projects is done in accordance with the City's Allocation Policy and the City's Housing Database to ensure that housing opportunities are allocated to qualifying beneficiaries in a fair and equitable manner that prevents queue-jumping.
